A second feature of these specialized segments is a relatively concentrated customer base — pharmaceutical companies, retail chains and fresh-produce e-commerce platforms make up the principal demand — and these customers tend to weigh service reliability more heavily than price sensitivity, giving providers with the right credentials and operating record a comparatively stable revenue foundation.
Where contract logistics gets its stickiness
The stickiness of contract logistics — long-term outsourced warehousing, delivery or supply-chain management for a specific customer — does not come from the contract terms themselves but from switching costs that build up once a provider is deeply embedded in a customer's operations. Once a logistics provider's systems are integrated with a customer's order and inventory management, the two sides become mutually dependent at the data and process level, and switching providers means absorbing the risk of system re-integration, staff retraining and short-term service disruption — costs that typically exceed whatever savings a price difference alone could offer.
